Spiritual Healing
To teach children of spirit animals is (at the very least) an advanced and intelligent way to teach emotions. The idea of “personality” is too fixed, boxing people's minds into whatever another person prefers them to be, particularity harmful in gender stereotyping and racism. Though I believe it to be more than this, in that I believe in the spirit of Mother Earth and the Spirits of both animals and flora, this article will be explained in a "western" manner.
With teaching the idea of channelling a spirit animal the child knows that if the need to be they can be as brave as a lion, or feel as loyal as a dog, as brave as a bear or as wily as a coyote if they need to be. That lets them just be who they want to be, who they naturally are. We are all good inside, but if we are forced to fit the demands of others it puts a pressure inside us that could lead to harm to the person's behaviour. So, in that way, we can see that a person behaving badly for any reason is a person in need of help. Of course if that behaviour harms others and cannot be contained, there would need to be a degree of isolation until they were safe and well, happy and healed.
I believe that all people, like all dogs, are good inside and it is combinations of religion, upbringing, faith, bias and fear that separate us. And so, to quote Sinead O'Connor on her Universal Mother Album with “ Knowledge and understanding can be forgiving and then actual healing.”
