***This story is dedicated to my other dear soul sister, the wonderful LS***
There once were a people who loved the earth as a sacred mother. They saw the beauty of the streams, the majesty of the forests and saw life as a precious gift. They weren't greedy and asked for no more. They never asked for eternal life, they did not require fear of hell. They did not need books inches deep to know how to be nice and decent, to care for one another, the animals and mother earth. They shared and their culture was one that lead them into a positive way of being, harmonious with the earth. Then came the newcomers, strange, mostly pale. They carried with them books of instructions and were tense on the inside, all of them scared to death of a place called "hell."
The newcomers came from a land where money and power were all important and nice guys finished last. Their culture was toxic in that their book told them to behave one way and their money systems demanded greedy behaviour and bully tactics. So they walked about with two minds - the one saying God was Love and the other saying the natives were "dangerous savages"because they didn't have the same instruction book.
Over time the people who loved the earth were decimated and abused, the others prospered, but always wanting more and more. What they had was never enough, bigger homes, bigger cars, more weapons! It became obvious that the ecosystems themselves were in peril and the newcomers dreamed of leaving earth for new planets.
The people who loved their mother had not these dreams, for that dream was their nightmare, the death of mother earth. Then even in the newcomer population people started to wake, to demand the earth be cared for, but they too got lost in silly arguments and no progress was made. They knew pride to be a sin but could not go to the people so wronged and ask for the help they needed so desperately.
In their pride they fought over if climate change was real - yet it did not matter. What they needed to do to save ecosystems was the same either way. They yelled about abortion without realizing that if you just cared for women and babies properly that wouldn't be an issue. They made food for nine billion but still most people on the planet were hungry. They kept a monetary system that only favoured the elite and kept the greed system destroying earth.
Pride is indeed a deadly sin, not perhaps to the one becoming rich, but to our mother earth.
