Folks these days in the west are showing an aversion to women covering themselves in the "islamic" way. I understand the point of women not wanting to be dominated and being forced to "hide," so isn't that what they should express? A fear that in the future they could loose their rights? In that case they need to do some soul searching and realize that they are acting on fear. Perhaps someone could fear them based on their skin colour, social grouping or religion. Can that person then act against them? Should they be enabled to do so?
Covering the hair is in many cultures including my own. British women used to love wearing headscarves, sometimes in combination with sunglasses. I often see people with a baseball cap on and a hoodie pulled over the top, hiding hair, neck and a portion of the face, plus hiding the eyes if they wish.
So, we already accept the right to show or cover whatever part of you you like, so what is it with the fuss over the muslim dress? Are we arguing about fashion? Are we that shallow? Or is it xenophobia? Or is it racism? Is it religious intolerance? Is it fear? Because when you push past the 'veil' the questions become far more interesting.
